Bertha Lee (Robinson) Belflower is the daughter of David Melton Robinson and Malissa Matilda (Bennett) Robinson.  Bertha was born at home in Berrien County Georgia on January 14, 1907 and she was the last of 15 children. She grew up on the family farm, which was located just north and across from Oakey Grove Primitive Baptist Church between Tifton and Nashville Georgia.

 

Her future husband George Irmon Belflower who was born on January 21, 1905 the son of George Luther Belflower and Nora (Baker) Belflower. The Reverend Griffin at Shady Grove Church in Berrien County married them on August 3, 1924.  The new couple resided in the Tifton area where their two sons Milton Luther and Kenneth George were born. They later moved to Valdosta where the boys grew up, graduated from High School and joined the Navy and Army during World War II.

 

Irmon and Bertha later moved to Saint Simons Island where they resided until his death on November 7, 1959. Bertha continued to reside in Saint Simons Island until she moved in the early 60’s to Plant City, Florida to be near her sister Arizona Charlotte (Robinson) Lipsey. She continued residing in Plant City and living independently until she sold her home at the age of 96. She currently resides with her two sons, spending time between Bartow, Florida and Longview, Texas.
